CSC Day One

Great to finally meet my fellow CSC team members at lunchtime yesterday. Most of the team had arrived earlier than me, so had already met, and had organized to go to Praia do Futuro in the afternoon (a beach just outside Fortaleza). We met in the lobby after lunch, and headed there in a couple of taxis. The beach was very nice - a pleasant breeze reduced the heat a little, and the water was warm, with strong waves rolling in from the Atlantic.  Fishermen were casting nets from the shore, and every few minutes someone would come along looking to sell shrimp, lobster, etc. to us.

The twelve members of the CSC 17 Brazil - Fortaleza team (members from Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, Slovakia, Turkey, Ireland, South Africa, USA, Singapore, and China), together with Juliana from IBM Brazil and Fernanda from Pyxera .

I also had a chance to practice my Portuguese, which is very rusty, but the taxi drivers and waiters did seem to understand me in spite of this !   Think I'll have to spend some time brushing up on grammar though.

We headed back to the hotel at around 4pm, and then went out to a local restaurant in the evening, together with the two representatives from Pyxera (the company organizing the assignment) who are looking after us - Fernanda and Fabiana. We had a very nice seafood meal, and then, as jet lag was kicking in, headed back to the hotel.

Here is an evening picture from my hotel - plenty of people out for an evening walk. The bright lights in the picture are from a local artisan market, where one can buy handicrafts, paintings, local food etc.

I've just finished a great café da manhã (breakfast) - lots of wonderful fresh fruit (mango, papaya, melon).
This morning, we are going on a walking tour of the town, and then doing some team building exercises in the afternoon,
